Who should (and shouldn't) get IV vitamin therapy

25 September 2026 · 2 min read · Care at Home by DrypSkin · Medically reviewed by Dr Khan

Booking an IV drip should feel as easy as ordering a coffee, and for most people it is. But a needle in a vein skips a few of the safeguards your body normally has, so before anyone in scrubs shows up at your door, we ask questions first, not after.

Good candidates, more often than not

Most people who message us fall into a few familiar categories: recovering from a heavy night, running on empty after a long-haul flight, coming off a stomach bug and struggling to keep fluids down, or simply wanting nutrient support alongside meals that have been a bit hit and miss lately. If that's you and your health history is unremarkable, there's usually nothing standing in the way.

Where we pause, or say not yet

A short list, and we mean it literally — these are the things that make us pick up the phone before we pick up a cannula.

  • Pregnancy. Not an automatic no, but we ask for a green light from your obstetrician first.
  • Kidney or heart conditions, particularly heart failure. Extra fluid volume that a healthy body shrugs off can be a real problem here.
  • Uncontrolled high blood pressure.
  • A known allergy to any ingredient in the formulation, including specific B vitamins.
  • G6PD deficiency, relevant for anyone requesting a high-dose vitamin C drip.
  • A fever or active infection on the day, even if it wasn't there when you booked. Our nurses are trained to reassess on arrival, not just follow the form.

None of these rule out IV therapy forever. Several just mean a conversation with your doctor, or with ours, before we go ahead.

Why the questionnaire takes five minutes

Occasionally someone would rather skip the health form and get straight to the drip. We understand the impulse — you're tired, you feel awful, you want it sorted. But those five minutes are exactly what separates a responsible mobile service from one that's just showing up with a bag and a needle. If our nurse isn't confident on the day, the visit is rescheduled rather than pushed through, and that's by design.

Not sure where you stand?

The consultation costs nothing, so if you have a condition you're unsure about, or you're planning ahead for a big week and want to check your options in advance, message us before you book. It's a far better conversation to have on WhatsApp than at your front door.
