STD testing at home: what to know before you book

18 August 2026 · 1 min read · Care at Home by DrypSkin · Medically reviewed by Dr Khan

Sexually transmitted infections are common, and they do not always come with obvious symptoms — which is exactly why regular screening matters if you are sexually active, not just testing when something feels wrong.

Why test even without symptoms

It is possible to have an infection without knowing, since many STIs cause no noticeable symptoms at all. Most infections are treatable with medication, and some are completely curable, so the main cost of not testing is time: the longer something goes unnoticed, the longer it can affect you or a partner.

Symptoms worth paying attention to

  • Discharge from the cervix, penis or anus
  • Discomfort when urinating
  • Skin growths or lumps near the genitals or anus
  • A rash or itching in the genital area
  • Unusual vaginal bleeding
  • Blisters, sores or warts around the genitals or anus

None of these confirm an infection on their own, and screening is still worthwhile without any of them present.

What our panels cover

We offer real-time PCR panels ranging from a focused 4-pathogen panel up to a comprehensive 13-pathogen panel covering chlamydia, gonorrhoea, mycoplasma, trichomonas, ureaplasma, herpes, syphilis and more, alongside individual IgG and IgM tests for herpes and chlamydia. Turnaround is typically 48 hours for the panels and 6 to 9 hours for individual antibody tests.

How at-home testing keeps it private
