DNA testing at home: which test actually answers your question?

15 August 2026 · 2 min read · Care at Home by DrypSkin · Medically reviewed by Dr Khan

"DNA test" covers a lot of ground, from skincare to ancestry, and the right one depends entirely on the question you are trying to answer. Here is what each of our eight tests actually looks at.

What genetic testing does

Genetic testing detects changes in genes, chromosomes or proteins using a sample such as blood, collected at your preferred location. It cannot diagnose a condition on its own, but it can help you understand predispositions and tailor nutrition, fitness or skincare decisions to you specifically.

The eight tests

  • Skin DNA test (AED 2,200) — collagen quality, elasticity, fine lines, sun protection, pigmentation, antioxidant levels and sensitivity.
  • Health & wellness DNA test (AED 2,700) — cholesterol metabolism, bone health, inflammation, oxidative stress, diabetes susceptibility and food responsiveness.
  • Diet DNA test (AED 2,200) — variations linked to weight and obesity, and how easily your body loses or gains weight.
  • Sports & fitness DNA test (AED 2,200) — endurance, aerobic capacity, muscle fibre type, bone composition and blood flow during exercise.
  • Genetic ancestry test — ethnicity estimates, paternal and maternal haplogroups, genetic relative matches and migration history.
  • Acne genetic test — genetic predisposition, inflammatory markers and hormonal factors behind acne.
  • Hair loss genetic test — predisposition, hormonal factors and potential treatment directions.
  • Telomere genetic test — telomere length, shortening rate and age-related erosion.

Pricing for the ancestry, acne, hair loss and telomere tests is confirmed on request.

How to pick one

Start from the decision you actually want to make: tailoring a skincare routine points to the skin test, questions about training response point to sports & fitness, and curiosity about family origins points to ancestry. Several people choose more than one test if their questions span categories.
